The Anna Paulowna tree is a strikingly graceful and colorful tree named after King William II’s Russian wife. This tree has large green leaves and an open crown that allows a lot of sunlight through. In May, the beautiful lilac-blue flowers appear just before the leaves appear. This medium-sized tree likes to be sheltered in a light location. The gray-brown bark later becomes rougher and the young branches are thick and felty-haired in contrast to the bare, hollow older branches. The taller the tree, the more beautiful it forms sturdy standing branches.
