Below, we describe Acer x freemanii ‘Celzam,’ which is a synonym for Acer x freemanii ‘Celebration’. It is a beautiful, upright-growing tree that forms a uniform pyramidal crown. The tree can reach a height of about 15 meters and grow up to 6 meters wide.
These specific characteristics make the tree suitable for planting along wider avenues and streets. The tree also tolerates paved surfaces well. It is also a beautiful tree to plant along a green belt or in a park. The tree is quite wind-resistant and is not prone to branch breakage.
In the summer, three- to five-lobed leaves appear in a bright green color; in the fall, they take on a very beautiful yellow-to-red autumn color. These closely resemble the leaves of Acer saccharinum. In the spring, the tree produces only male flowers in greenish-yellow catkins, which later turn red. The tree does not bear fruit.
The tree was introduced in 1980 by Lake County Nurseries in Ohio, United States.
