We focus on Lagerstroemia indica in its tree form. We also grow this cultivar as a shrub.
During hot summers, this cultivar blooms profusely in August. The tree is native to Asia and is widely used in the Mediterranean region. In our climate, the tree does need shelter, as it is sensitive to severe frost. However, in practice, frost damage is often not as bad as one might expect.
Another striking feature is its flaking bark, which is somewhat reminiscent of the bark of a Parrotia. In the nursery, the tree also has a lot of lichens on its trunk. Its somewhat erratic growth is another striking feature of this species. It is also a beautiful tree for use along streets in city and town centers. Furthermore, it is a great tree for enthusiasts to plant in a garden or park.
