Below, we’ll focus on Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Bruchem’. In its early years, the tree grows in a narrow, upright form. Later, it quickly develops a broader, oval-shaped crown with a well-defined top. Growth is relatively slow, but in a favorable location, the tree can eventually reach a height of 15 to 20 meters. This makes the tree suitable for planting along streets, on green belts, or in parks.
This maple is quite wind-resistant and can also be planted in coastal areas. The tree has few soil requirements but does not tolerate prolonged high water levels very well.
This cultivar blooms in April with yellow-green flowers in hanging clusters. Later, one-sided, winged nuts develop, with two attached to each stalk. The five-lobed leaves are a slightly dull green with a blue-gray underside.
The tree was found in Bruchem, Gelderland, in the municipality of Zaltbommel. The tree was released in 1984 by the former Dorschkamp Research Station, now Wageningen University.
