The ratchet poplar has long, flat leaf stalks that make a vibrating, rattling motion in the wind from which this tree gets its name. This poplar grows almost everywhere, even in the dunes in the Netherlands. Its narrow, elegant shape makes the tree popular with architects. The metallic blue leaves with silver-gray undersides give a beautiful color effect.
