The dogwood is a beautiful, colorful plant. Cornus species are very suitable for making informal hedges. Due to its broad growth habit, Cornus mas is best used in larger gardens or in and parks. The Latin name Cornus freely translated means horn and refers to the beautiful antler shape of the bald dogwood hedge. The dogwood is hardy and has few stand requirements. Note that when used as a hedge, the roots can become rampant. This is easily prevented by cutting off or staking off off shoots below ground in time.
