Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is widely used for making hedges from about 80 cm to 400 cm. Beech leaves usually sprout in late April – first week of May. The autumn color of common beech is orange. In winter, a few withered leaves usually remain on the branches only to fall off next year when the beech re-sprouts. A beech hedge tolerates shade.To obtain a more robust hedge, two/three rows are sometimes planted in a triangular arrangement. If you want to have beech hedges set, the best time to do so is from November through March.
